Last minute location of Chromebook Pickup-Please see Mr. Stepner's email

One change for location of pick up:
  • The church parking lot will not be used at this time.
  • Due to the increase in numbers, we will use the drop off/pick up zone in the main parking lot off of Melrose Avenue and Naples Street. It is the main parking lot connected to the blacktop playground. Please use the drive up lane to meet at the gate entering the playground.
For a more organized Chromebook pick up process, please fill out the attached form to help LdVCS keep track of the devices going out for use in homes tomorrow. In order to keep everyone safe, if you could have your filled out and ready to turn in to me on arrival that would make this process go very smoothly. In the event you can not print this out, I will have extra copies for you to sign. Please bring a pen to use to keep everyone safe.
Hope you are all well!

Chromebook Distrubution (Mr. Stepner's email in case you didn't see it.)

Hello LdVCS Families,
We have ChromeBooks ready for you to borrow and we will distribute the computers in the following manner:
  • Pickup will be in the parking lot at 210 Jamul Avenue. It is the lot by the church.
  • Drive up and hand off service. Please follow times exactly as they are to alleviate too much traffic.
    • Kindergarten, First and Second Grade: 10:00am - 10:30 am
    • 3rd and 4th Grade: 10:30am - 11:00 am
    • 5th and 6th Grade: 11:00am - 11:30 am
  • We have them divided by grade level and the information was made through classroom teachers. It will be an easy process.
  • Please keep the computers as safe as you possibly can. We will need to use them once this has passed.
    • Please try to use the computer when there is no food or drinks around.
    • Please charge the computers each night after use. The most effective way is to log off and shut down while charging.
    • Thank you for reaching out to make sure your child has access. I appreciate your time.
  • Please contact your child's teacher with any questions.
  • I have also attached a revised meal schedule for the weeks of March 24, 2020 through April 3, 2020.

Mr. Stepner's most recent email (in case you didn't see it)

Hello LdVCS Families,

Just an update for you to review. I hope all is well and that you are safe. Please read below.

  • We are at the point of change in instruction for most of us. Since the amount of new cases is on the rise, we need to be prepared for distance learning. Teachers are preparing lessons online and have created places to store lessons. Please start getting ready by creating "workstations" at home if possible.
    • Teachers are contacting families directly to survey their needs for technology.
  • Some teachers may have already connected with their students through Zoom. This will be a main form of communication used by the entire LdVCS community for face to face instruction if distance learning is required.
  • Here is a list of closures and dates for you to review from time to time. I do the same as it changes frequently.
  • I have attached the updated meals distribution list. Please take advantage of these meal services if you prefer.
  • The next parent meeting will be Wednesday March 25, 2020. Please see the time for your grade level and enter the meeting at the time and date listed in the email. See the schedule below:
  • We are following CVESD very closely. Since we are co-located on one of their campuses, we are required to follow their directives in terms of occupancy of the site. See here for updates
  • I will continue to update you as information is passed along. I wish you all safety and health during this time. Please continue to stay informed during this time and you can do so here
  • Since we have truly completed a majority of the school year, some teachers will take this opportunity to review items that were challenging for students to make sure these skills and strategies are helpful for them in the next grade level. Instead of reviewing for the CAASPP, teachers will be able to review things that require more instruction.
  • I would also like to review that teachers have really adjusted to this information in a very professional manner and are ready to go no matter what the decision is down the road to open schools back up or to keep them closed for the good and the health/safety of the community. Please keep in mind that they too have children of their own and need to create new learning process and also keep the class organized and connected through technology. I only mention this to help us understand that change is affecting everyone. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

See you on Wednesday evening. Hang in there!

Lea a continuación.

Remote Learning Update

Hi families,
I hope everyone is doing well!  Last week Mr. Stepner sent out a draft of a daily schedule starting on 4/6. Please email me to let me know if you did not receive it.  In the coming week I will be setting up a practice zoom meeting with your child. It is essentially a video meeting and you will receive an invitation link with the date and time in your email.  Please make sure that you have downloaded zoom at .  It is free.  If you have emailed me because you need a device, I will get back to you as soon as I know what the plan is.
Starting on 4/6, 2nd grade will be using a website called  This is where I will be posting assignments for your child to complete and turn in.  From there, I can check student work, give feedback and even have them correct work if needed.  There will be videos for the students to watch and some really great tools for them to use.  For example, they can take pictures of their work, record themselves talking and do learning games.  I'd like to use zoom during that ELA and Math block to do a quick mini lesson, some guided practice and then have students use that time to work on assignments and ask any questions.  I plan on giving them a little tutorial next week over zoom so that we can get it up and running right away on 4/6.
I know this may seem like a lot of information but once we get up and running I think it will run very smoothly.  I will also be sending a document outlining teacher/parent/student expectations in another post.  Feel free to email me at any time with any questions or concerns.  Tell your kiddos hi from me!!

Learning Resources

Hi families,
Here are a couple of links that you may find helpful at this time.  I especially like the scholastic website because it breaks it into days with some wonderful activities.  If you don't have a computer or online access, students can always just work on the packets sent home from class (which are optional).
scholastic learning at home:
a collection of websites (many are free right now/no subscription needed)
I am still working on report cards and I will email them as soon as I can. (As you can imagine it is hard to get much work done with 2 little kids at home.) :) I hope that you are all staying healthy!!
-Mrs. Smith

Today, the students were given 2 packets of homework along with their passwords for imagine learning and imagine math. This homework is not mandatory, but it would be a good idea to have your child do a couple of pages each day as well as make use of the imagine learning and imagine math website.  Again, it is optional.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Report Cards and Conferences

Hi families,
As you already know, school is cancelled next week.  I will be emailing you a pdf of the report card some time next week.  Once I figure out my own schedule for next week, I will be emailing parents separately if I feel that I need to have a phone conference with you.  If you do not get an email from me asking for a phone conference, assume that your child is making adequate progress. As always, if you would like to schedule a conference anyways I am happy to do that.  Or, I am happy to meet with you in person once we return to school. Have a wonderful spring break and stay healthy!!

Temporary Snack Requirements

Hi families,
In order to prevent any cross contamination or spreading of germs, please send in pre-packaged snacks only for the time being if it is your day to provide snack for the class. This does not apply to your student's personal lunch. If you do not have the means to do this please let me know.  Thank you.

Leprechaun Traps and Prewriting Web due Wednesday

Hi families,
A friendly reminder that traps and prewriting webs are due on Wednesday. Please send them in on time so that we can use them for various activities in the classroom. Have a great weekend!
