A little about me!
My name is Ms. Berk and I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade here at LdVCS! Before I became a teacher, I did many different things! I was a ballerina, photographer, musician, writer, music teacher, project manager and now, I am a full-time elementary school teacher.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Photo-Illustration from Kent State University, Ohio and a Masters in Teaching from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. I am certified in Positive Discipline, and have many years of experience teaching through The Project Approach. In addition, I am also a music teacher, and have directed shows and taught piano, vocals, guitar and bass guitar at the Chicago, Portland and San Diego School of Rock. I sometimes teach private piano and vocal lessons!
Before I moved to San Diego, I was 4th grade teacher at Buckman Arts Magnet Elementary in Portland, Oregon. I implemented their first ever Science Fair and a school-wide math challenge. After teaching at Buckman for two years, I went to The Emerson School, where I taught a blended 4th and 5th grade class. This was a Project-Based elementary school. While teaching at Emerson, I led the students in a variety of projects including Project Photography, Project Theatre and Project Oregon History.
I am thrilled to be here at Leonardo da Vinci Elementary teaching 5th grade!
